Un roi de albine a ucis 63 de pinguini africani, specie aflată pe cale de dispariţie, pe o plajă de lângă oraşul Cape Town, scrie SHOK.md cu referire la theguardian.
Fundaţia pentru Conservarea Păsărilor de Coastă din Africa de Sud a declarat că au descoperit înţepături de albină în zona ochilor la exemplarele decedate.
„După ce am efectuat mai multe teste, am descoperit că înţepăturile erau proeminente în zona ochilor şi au fost făcute de către un roi de albine. La faţa locului am găsit şi albine moarte, dar nu am făcut imediat legătura. Acest tip de evenimente se întmplă foarte rar şi este păcat, pentru că pinguinul african are un risc ridicat de extincţie”, a declarat David Roberts, medic veterinar în cadrul fundaţiei.
Pinguinii africani locuiesc pe coasta şi în insulele din sudul Africii. Specia se confruntă cu un risc ridicat de dispariţie, iar astfel de evenimente nefericite accentuează acest proces ireversibil.
